Swimmers and swimblers unite! I’m on a mission to encourage and enable people into the sea for a swimble. Not everyone wants to have a ‘proper’ swim. I have a disability and when I do manage to get across the pebbles on Brighton beach, it’s not a true ‘swim’ – I bob about in the shallows, enjoying the pain relief, the feeling of vitality and the camaraderie!
So many people who would benefit from a dip in the sea are unaware of the physical and mental health benefits, or who may be well-informed, but feel unable post COVID isolation, to come out and access the water without some form of support. I hope that we can create communities who support each other to experience the wonderful feeling of being in cold water and connecting serious swimmers and swimblers.
I’m planning a community event in Brighton called ‘The Big Swimble’ in September (date tbc) to raise awareness, get as many people in the water as possible and have some fun!. The event will be as inclusive as possible so I’m looking for feedback from would be swimblers about what they might need/want.
I hope that other cold water fans in different places will have their own mini swimbles and share some pics!.
